General characteristics of the uniform of the Saxon hussars (mainly according to R. v. Haber).

On the officers' uniform

The headgear was a fur cap made of otter fur with the gilded Saxon coat of arms placed on a star, together with scale chains. The kolpak was ponceau red. The national (plume) was green-silver. The silver chin cords were threaded with green. For parade a heron plume was worn.

The cap was cornflower blue and had a matching trim band with yellow piping.

The coat or Attila was also cornflower blue and had golden chain cords. The shoulder cords, however, were silver.

As an interim uniform an Attila with plain golden cords was worn.

The cornflower-blue trousers had a simple golden braid trim.

The boots had long shafts and had at the upper edge a trim of golden braid and a rosette. The spur straps were straight.

The saber belt consisted of golden braid with a cornflower-blue cloth lining. The fittings were gilded.

The saber pouch had a lining the color of the Attila. The saber pouch displayed the crowned royal cypher in golden braid, as did the edging. The leather lining was the color of the kolpak. The carrying straps matched the construction of the saber belt.

On the uniforms of the ranks

The fur cap of the ranks was made of seal fur and showed the star in brass with the applied nickel-silver Saxon coat of arms. The scale chains were yellow. The kolpak had the same color as on the officers' fur cap. The national (plume) was green-white. The chin cords were white. For parade the fur cap was adorned with a white upright hair plume. The trumpeters had red hair plumes.

The cap of the ranks corresponded to that of the officers.

The Attila was cornflower blue with yellow cords and braids. The trousers were likewise.

The boots of the ranks also corresponded to the construction of the officers'. They had a yellow edging.

The coats were single-breasted with yellow buttons and had cornflower-blue shoulder flaps edged in yellow.

The white saber belt was made of leather and had yellow fittings.

The saber pouch was worn on white straps.

The base color of the flap was cornflower blue. On it the crowned royal cypher AR could be seen.

This consisted of chased yellow metal. The edging braids were also yellow, as were the fittings.

The hussar sash consisted of white wool threaded with green.

The 1st Saxon Hussar Regiment King Albert No. 18 (Großenhain). Formation and garrison.

The 1st Saxon Hussar Regiment King Albert No. 18 had its founding day on 14.04.1734 and its garrison in Großenhain.

The unit belonged to the XII Royal Saxon Army Corps.

Furthermore it belonged to the 23rd (Royal Saxon) Cavalry Brigade, which was based in Dresden.

The 1st Saxon Hussar Regiment King Albert No. 18 (Großenhain). Uniform.

The Attila was cornflower blue, as were the trousers. Golden chain cords were worn on the Attila. The officers' interim Attila had plain golden cords.

The buttons were yellow.

The kolpak (of the fur cap) was ponceau red in color.

The cornflower-blue cap had yellow piping.

The gray coat and the litewka had red collar patches. The shoulder straps were cornflower blue with yellow piping and a pierced-out unit number.

Otherwise the trumpeters rode gray horses.

The 2nd Saxon Hussar Regiment Crown Prince Wilhelm No. 19 (Grimma). Formation and garrison.

The 2nd Saxon Hussar Regiment Crown Prince Wilhelm No. 19 had its foundation day on 30.07.1791 (establishment: 01.10.1791) and its garrison in Grimma.

In 1877 the 2nd and 4th squadrons were stationed in Lausigk.

The unit belonged to the XII Royal Saxon Army Corps.

Furthermore it belonged to the 24th (Royal Saxon) Cavalry Brigade, which was based in Dresden.

The 2nd Saxon Hussar Regiment Crown Prince Wilhelm No. 19 (Grimma). Uniform.

The Attila was cornflower blue, as were the trousers. Silver chain cords were worn on the Attila. The officers' interim Attila had plain silver cords.

The buttons were white.

The kolpak (of the fur cap) was purple-red in color.

The light-blue trim band of the cap had white piping.

Otherwise the trumpeters rode black horses.

The 3rd Saxon Hussar Regiment No. 20 (Bautzen). Formation and garrison.

The 3rd Saxon Hussar Regiment No. 20 was established in 1910 and was garrisoned in Bautzen.

The 3rd Saxon Hussar Regiment No. 20 (Bautzen). Uniform of the ranks (mainly according to Knötel/ Pietsch/ Collas).

The 3rd Saxon Hussar Regiment No. 20 was clothed in field gray from the outset.

The kolpak of the fur cap was light blue. Otherwise like H 18 and H 19.

The cap had white or light-blue piping on the cornflower-blue trim band.

The Attila was field gray with matching cords.

The shoulder cords were white-cornflower blue.

At the front there were slanted pockets with a button.

The riding breeches were field gray with the same braid.

The riding boots were as in H 19.

The long cloth trousers were also field gray with red piping.

Coat and litewka were gray. The field-gray collar patches had light-blue piping.

The shoulder flaps on the coat were field gray with white piping.

No sash, no bandolier, no cartridge box and no saber pouch were worn.

The belt was brown with a nickel-silver buckle. This showed the coat of arms in silver.

The equipment included a carrying frame and cartridge pouches made of brown natural leather. These were not worn for parade.

Non-commissioned officers had silver braid.

The 3rd Saxon Hussar Regiment No. 20 (Bautzen). Officers' uniforms (mainly according to Knötel/ Pietsch/ Collas).

The officers' Attila was also in field-gray. Cut similar to H 18 and H 19. However, it had a turnover collar.

The trim consisted of gray woolen flat braid interwoven with green.

The rosettes and the toggle buttons of the Attila were covered in the same manner.

The shoulder buttons were matte silver and bore a crown.

The shoulder cords were silver with green running through them.

The field-gray riding breeches had the same trim.

The riding boots corresponded to the boots in H 19, but with silver braid.

There were also long field-gray trousers with a red piping.

The Litewka corresponded to the H 19 model but had matte buttons with a crown.

Matte silver buttons were also used on the paletot. Its collar was turned down (field-gray with blue lining). The facings were white.

The sash was like in H 18 and H 19.

Bandolier and cartridge box were not worn, nor was a sabre frog.

The belt was like in H 19, but with a field-gray backing.

Silvered stars were attached to the saddlecloth; the central piece was light blue with a silver crown.

The pistol pouches were light blue with white piping and silver braid.

The service blanket was dark blue.

The officers of H 20 did not have gala breeches.
