Uniforms and Equipment of the Old Army - Cavalry - Hussars - Regiments - Hussar Regiment King William I. (1st Rhine) No. 7

The regiment was stationed in Bonn and was established on March 7, 1815. According to v. Haber, the day of foundation is April 14, 1815.

The unit was formed

from the 4th squadron of Hussar Regiment No. 1

and

from personnel (2 squadrons) of the Silesian National Cavalry Regiment.

From 1857 the Prussian king became the chief of the formation.

The unit received its replacements from the Rhine Province; the remounts came from Treptow and Bärenklau.

A distinctive feature of the Bonn Hussars was the ribbon trim on the hussar cap with the stylized monogram WR I topped by a crown.

The base cloth of the attila was Russian blue; the cord trim was lemon yellow or, for officers, gold.

The covering cloth of the cap was ponceau red, the facings yellow.

The kolpak of the fur cap was also red.
