Some information follows here in a personal capacity. My name is Wolfgang Hanne (* 01.11.1956) and I have been engaged for several decades with the history of military dress. Since the 1970s I have been a member of the Gesellschaft für Heereskunde, in whose publication organ numerous articles by me (on the Old Prussian army) have also appeared in the past. This military-historical interest was certainly shaped and guided by my early acquaintance with the well-known military scholar Dr. Hans Bleckwenn (Münster), who taught me the fundamentals of a scientific approach to such a topic and provided access to the key sources, especially on the history of the Old Prussian army. Subsequently, over time I became his collaborator, also at times in my capacity as a freelance contributor to the Zeller publishing group (Osnabrück).

After his death in 1990 I further advanced the study of Prussian and Napoleonic uniforms and later expanded it to the German Imperial Army up to 1918. In 2009 my pictorial volume on the field-gray uniform 1907 – 1918 with over 1,000 discussed illustrations was published by Militaria-Verlag (Vienna). Further similar pictorial volumes on the German Imperial Army are in preparation, as well as comprehensive presentations on the individual focus areas of this website. The latter are intended in the future to appear in regular publishing houses or in their own publishing house yet to be founded.

After ending my full-time position as head of the specialist office and as legal representative for proceedings of the building supervisory authority of a larger independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia in the autumn of 2022, my work as an author and lecturer on building-law matters continues, but I now intend in particular to present and make available to a wider public the results of my work on the aforementioned subject along with the corresponding sources. The basis for this is my extensive specialist library and my collection of evidence, above all contemporary and later illustrations and original photographs of soldiers up to 1918.

Born on February 23, 1984 in Münster, I completed my degree as a Diplom-Ingenieur in mechanical engineering in 2008. With a passion for technology and innovation, I have established myself in my professional career as a full-stack developer, a role I have practiced with dedication for more than 15 years.

Alongside my main occupation I also devote myself to my company Aureola, where I work as a part-time games and software developer. I currently live in Dortmund, a vibrant major city in the west of Germany that offers me both inspiring urban experiences and proximity to my professional and personal networks.

At Vestes Bellica I am responsible for the design and technical implementation. My focus is on creating a user-friendly and appealing design. The aim is to make this project accessible to as many people as possible and thereby enable a better understanding of the topics covered.
