Uniforms and Equipment of the Old Army - Cavalry - Cuirassier Regiments - Cuirassier Regiment von Driesen (Westphalian) No. 4

The Cuirassier Regiment von Driesen (Westphalian) No. 4 had its founding day on 19.04.1717 and stood in the tradition of the old Prussian Dragoon Regiment v. Wuthenau.

It was established on 16.10.1807 in Königsberg in Prussia and Wehlau, formed from the Dragoon Regiment v. Zieten (see also the Cuirassier Regiment Graf Wrangel (East Prussian) No. 3).

The final garrison was Münster in Westphalia; previously also partly in Hamm, Warendorf, etc. (each until 1884).

Replacements were drawn from Westphalia and the Münsterland, until 1816 from West Prussia and from 1833 to 1850 from Lower Silesia.

On 27.01.1889 the regiment was granted its final name "von Driesen" by Kaiser Wilhelm II, with reference to the Prussian Lieutenant General Georg Wilhelm von Driesen (1700–1758).

The last regimental commanders were Maximilian v. Oertzen and Hubert von Platen (1919).

In October 1916 the regiment had to give up its horses and henceforth belonged to the Cavalry Rifle Regiment.

On 18 August 1919 the regiment returned to Münster.

The unit was disbanded after the First World War on 01.10.1919.

On the white koller the badge color was light red, i.e. the piping of the collar, down the front and on the sleeve cuffs.
