The Uhlan Regiment King Karl (1st Württ.) No. 19 has a long history and tradition.
In 1683 the regiment was established as the Swabian Circle Regiment of Horse under von Höhnstett.
From 1698 the regiment was called Hereditary Prince of Württemberg.
In 1732 the unit was converted into a dragoon regiment and was thereafter called the Württemberg District Dragoon Regiment.
From 1775 the regiment was amalgamated with the Grenadiers à cheval von Phull and initially bore that designation as well.
From 1792 the unit was the Württemberg District Dragoon Regiment.
From 1796 reorganizations into a cavalry regiment took place, which then, after detachments and again an increase in numbers in 1802, became a Chevaulegers Regiment with 5 squadrons.
From 1807 the unit received the name Chevaulegers Regiment No. 1 Prince Adam and from 11.11.1813 the designation Leib-Cavalry Regiment No. 1. Previously (1805) the regiment had lost one squadron and in 1807 another squadron.
After an increase by one squadron, in 1816 the formation became the First Cavalry Regiment with four squadrons.
From 1864 the regiment bore the name 1st Cavalry Regiment King Karl and was increased in 1871 by a fifth squadron.
From 12.10.1871 it became the 1st Uhlan Regiment King Karl and on 18.12.1878 the 1st Württemberg Uhlan Regiment King Karl No. 19.
From 14.12.1874 the formation carried the above-mentioned name.
The recruits for the regiment were taken from the district commands Calw, Reutlingen, Horb, Rottweil, Leonberg, Ludwigsburg, Heilbronn, Hall, Stuttgart.
The remounts came from the depots Hunnsrück near Hildesheim (Hanover).
The standard was bestowed on 03.09.1851.
On 30.09.1919 the regiment was disbanded.
The regiment was garrisoned in Stuttgart.
The badge color was ponceau red.
On the collar and on the sleeve cuffs of the Ulanka white-linen braids were worn, as on the Prussian Guard Uhlan regiments.
On the ponceau-red shoulder straps of the coat a yellow name-band was worn, and on the epaulettes the same name-band in brass was used.
