The regiment's foundation day was December 5, 1813.
It was established on March 7, 1815 in Huy (Belgium).
The unit was formed by the incorporation of the Bergische Hussars.
The precursor formation was established after the occupation of the Grand Duchy of Berg on November 8, 1813. For this, the officers and men from the Hamm depot, the soldiers who had returned from Russia, and the soldiers of the former Bergisch lancer regiment who had been captured at Possendorf were used. On January 6, 1814 the formation process was completed and it was transferred to take part in the blockade of Mainz.
The last commander was Karl v. Moers.
The regiment's last peacetime garrison was Krefeld, previously Münster and later Düsseldorf.
The unit was disbanded on October 1, 1919.
The regiment's recruits came from Westphalia and the Rhineland.
The attila was green, its cords white.
The kolpak of the fur cap was red.

The Imperial Army and the navy were composed mainly of conscripts. Conscription means the legally based obligation of every male—fit for military service—citizen to perform military service. General conscription was introduced in Prussia as part of the military reforms in 1814 (Law on the Obligation to Military Service of 03.09.1814), in the North German Confederation in 1867 (Law concerning the Obligation to Military Service ... of 09.11.1867). After the foundation of the Reich in 1871, general conscription also applied in the German Empire; the Imperial Military Law of 1874 adopted the previous provisions of the 1867 Military Service Act. Conscription began at the age of 20.
