About this collection
From medieval municipal military affairs to the Royal Prussian garrison
This special focus recalls the military-historical tradition of the city of Münster, which, since gaining city status, predominantly and from the 17th century onward permanently housed soldiers and, before 1914, was one of the largest garrisons in the German Empire. By way of example for other German garrisons, the development of the author's hometown as a garrison will be presented from the city's defense by its citizenry up to the end of the First World War and the end of the Empire.
