Napoleonic Miniatures by Cdt. Landret

Below are shown watercolor drawings of French soldier types from the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. These originate from a uniform-historically ambitious French military man named Cdt. Landret and were created in the 1840s and 1850s. This is a collection of small-format colored drawings that are probably part of a larger work, which also covers the period of the Restoration. The collection probably originally—as can be inferred from the numbering—comprised several hundred illustrations. The drawings are partly naive, but the workmanship improves significantly over the years. Since they are very detailed and show various forms of dress, it seems justified to present the illustrations here. Unfortunately, nothing more is known about the uniform painter.
